The instrumentation section was officially organized on the first of October, 1974 being a joint project of the Institute of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (INSAET, now CEAT) and the then Office of the Director of Research. Initially, it was under the Department of Agricultural Machinery Engineering and Technology (now a division of the Institute of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering) before it was transferred to the Department of Electrical Engineering.
The Instrumentation section serves as the extension arm of the Department, with its original function being only to repair scientific equipment. It then expanded to include designing and fabrication of instruments and gadgets, revival/modification of condemned/old equipment, and repair of refrigerated scientific equipment used in research. Later on, equipment used in instruction and extension, and pre-repair and post-repair inspections of UPLB equipment from other service centers were included in the work performed by the Section. | Kim Jay Rosano, 10 Sept 2021
