On the 26th of September, 1996, the BOR approved the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) program effective 2nd Semester, AY 1996-1997. The first students of the BSEE program were freshmen transferees from other degree programs. The Department of Electrical Engineering was then established on the 17th of April, 1997 after it was approved by the Board of Regents (BOR).
The Department accepted its first batch of regular freshmen students during the 1st semester of AY 1997-1998. However, these students did not actually apply for the BSEE program in their UPCAT application since the UPCAT that time has already been administered when the BSEE program was approved. What happened was, incoming freshmen were offered to enroll in the BSEE program instead. Some of those who accepted the offer were waitlist applicants in other degree programs. The BSEE program was officially included in the roster of courses during the UPCAT 1998.
By the 1st semester of AY 1998-1999, the BOR approved the Diploma in Electrical Engineering program. It was during this time that the Department offered a bachelor’s degree program and a diploma program. |Kim Jay R. Rosano, 06 Sept 2021
