A UP education seeks to produce graduates imbued with an abiding sense of responsibility to their people and nation, the skills and mindsets to improve human life, and a commitment to the freedom and welfare of all.
Aside from mastery of knowledge in their specific disciplines, UP graduates must possess breadth of mind, strength of character, and generosity of spirit, fostered by a firm grounding in both the arts and sciences, and such specialist courses as their programs may require.
They must be prepared to inclusively engage with society and the world at large, mindful of their people’s needs and capabilities, and keen to the challenges and opportunities of national development in this century of rapid global change.
UP aims to achieve this through its General Education program, one that develops mind, body and spirit, which familiarize all its students with their culture and history and fosters a sense of shared citizenship, while equipping them with critical thinking, discernment and technical skills they will need to excel in their chosen professions.

History
The Department of Electrical Engineering has more that a decade-long record of excellence. The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) Program was approved by the UP Board of Regents (BOR) on September 26, 1996. On April 17, 1997, the BOR approved the establishment of the UPLB Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE) with Assoc. Prof. Maximino G. Villanueva as the first Department Chair. Shiftees from other degree programs in UPLB were the first few students until the program was included in the UP College of Admission Test Application form in 1998. In 2001, the department produced its first graduate.
The department was initially housed at the CEAT Building B then later was relocated at the Instrumentation Section Building’s current location. On October 19, 1998, the department’s location was once again transferred to the Powerhouse, now known as the Industrial Engineering Building. Finally, the department transferred to its permanent location in 2003. The Electrical Engineering Building houses the CEAT Administration Building, Office of the College Secretary and the College Library.
In 2018, a new BSEE curriculum was approved by the BOR to cater to the change in the educational system with the implementation of the K-12 program. The department consistently demonstrates exceptional performance in the Registered Electrical Engineer and Registered Master Electrical licensure examinations with its share of topnotchers in most of the licensure examinations. Thus, graduates from the Department of Electrical Engineering are academically excellent, globally competitive, and well equipped with the basic principles of modern electrical and electronics engineering. Moreover, the students are able to creatively translate the theories and principles of the course through laboratory experiments and undergraduate research. Furthermore, contribution to development of the environmental, social, safety, economic, and other issues besetting the Electrical Engineering profession towards the development of the nation marks the true spirit embedded in the phrase “Iskolar ng bayan, para sa bayan.”
